Cyclone Fengal Causes Disruptions in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry: Flights Grounded, Intense Rain Continues

Due to severe weather conditions in certain areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, flight operations at Chennai airport have been suspended until 4 a.m. on Sunday.

Cyclone Fengal is affecting the Chennai weather forecast. An official from the IMD mentioned that dredging has begun near Puducherry in response to Cyclone Fengal, a process expected to take around four hours. By 5:30 p.m., the cyclone was located 60 km east-northeast of Puducherry, moving at a speed of 7 km/h. The Indian weather system has reached the center of its spiral band and made landfall. As a result of the severe weather in parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, flight operations at Chennai airport were initially suspended until 7 a.m. on Sunday. Earlier today, operations were halted until 7 a.m. as well.

471 individuals from 165 families were relocated to 6 relief centers in the Tiruvallur and Nagapattinam districts. The NDRF has equipped boats, generators, motor pumps, and other essential tools in preparation for any emergencies.

Tension has arisen in the affected areas as efforts are made to safeguard the state.

 

Heavy rainfall has been reported in southern Andhra Pradesh. The weather department has forecasted light to moderate rain in some areas of Dashid Tatiye and Rayalaseema, while very heavy rains are anticipated in one or two locations within SPSR-Nellore, Tirupati, and Chittoor districts of Andhra Pradesh.

According to IMD, there is a chance of rain or lightning in one or two areas of Karad Dakshid Tatiya or Rayalaseema due to Cyclone Fengal.

On Sunday, heavy rain is expected in one or two locations in the Annam Prakasam, SPSR-Nellore, YSR Kadapa, YYA, Tirupati, or Chittur districts. The storm could move at speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour in the South Coastal region of Andhra Pradesh or Rayalaseema.

Vehicles are encountering significant challenges due to the floods. In Chennai, heavy rainfall is causing commuting issues, and residents are being advised to stay indoors. There is hope that Cyclone Fengal will approach in the near future.
