Police reported that a clash occurred on Tuesday (26 November 2024) between Bangladeshi supporters and security personnel following the arrest of a Hindu leader, Mukhar Sadhu, who was denied bail on trespassing charges. One person lost their life in this incident.

Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a spokesperson for a Navgadhit Hindu group, was arrested on Monday, November 25, 2024, after leading a protest that called for the protection of minorities.

New Delhi: The Foreign Minister voiced serious concern on Tuesday regarding the arrest of Hindu community leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in Bangladesh. We are very worried about the arrest and the denial of bail to Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, who also leads the Sanatan Jagrad Jot in Bangladesh. This incident follows a series of attacks on Hindus and other minorities by Charampanti terrorists in the country.

Numerous cases of arson and looting have been reported, affecting the homes of community members and places of worship, along with incidents of theft, vandalism, and desecration of deities and temples, the Foreign Minister stated. Regrettably, those responsible for these acts remain free, while charges are being brought against religious leaders who are seeking justice through peaceful gatherings. The minister also highlighted concerns about the assaults on Hindus who are protesting the arrest of these religious figures.

The statement emphasized, “We call on Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety of Hindus and all minorities, safeguarding their right to peace and freedom of expression.” On Tuesday, a Bangladeshi court denied the bail request of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, the leader of the Hindu organization Sammilita Sanatni Jot, and ordered his imprisonment. Das was arrested on Monday near the Hazrat Shajlal International Air Force Station in Dhaka.

Rejaul Karim, the chief of the Police Detective Branch, confirmed Das’s custody following a request from the regular police, although specific charges were not disclosed. Gorang Das Brahmachari, the chief organizer of Sanatani Jagrah Jot, mentioned that Das had intended to fly from Dhaka to Chatgao. Earlier, on October 30, officials charged 19 individuals, including Das, from the Chatgao and Kotwali police stations, accusing them of committing atrocities against the Bangladeshi people during a rally held by the Hindu community in the Newmarket area of Chatgao.
